David began to gain prominence as an artist when
he was included in 1978 in the New Image Painting exhibition
at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Like True, most
of the included artists were young and were influenced
by Minimal Art. They all worked figuratively, with
recognizable images pared down to bold, simple shapes.
True's shapes were those of boats on rocky seas. |
